Victorian Easter Afternoon Tea - Gilbert Scott

My absolute favourite hotel in London has got to be the St Pancras Renaissance hands down. It’s magnificently grand, regal and manor-like. It’s hard to even believe it’s in London.

Inside, resides The Gilbert Scott, the so very Quintessentially British restaurant by the infamous Marcus Wareing. They’ve managed to create a pretty delightful Easter-themed Victorian afternoon tea at a very reasonable price (£25 a head).

Artist Charlotte Cory’s collaboration with the chefs at The Gilbert Scott have produced a unique menu that reflects traditional Victorian Easter bites.

The first tier consisted of piping hot, fluffy scones (with clotted cream and jam) as well as hot cross buns with fruit and spices to adhere to the Easter theme.

The middle tier (my favourite) included two wonderful ‘Roast Lamb Rolls’ and an assortment of classic Victorian sandwiches, one filled with egg mayonnaise and the other with smoked salmon and caper cheese.

The bottom tier was a great representation of Easter treats. The goodies on board were quite childlike and consisted of oaty bunny biscuits,  chocolate and caramel eggs and a sinnel cake. The pièce de resistance had to be an intriguing ‘Chocolate and Carrot Pot‘. The chocolate was made to look like soil and the carrot was made of marzipan. The mousse texture was a delight and interestingly enough, it wasn’t sickly sweet.

Instead of the traditional champagne afternoon tea, this one offers a ‘Bunny Bonnet Cocktail‘ which looks quite milky being a mixture of white chocolate, spiced rum, dark chocolate bitters and Amaretto. This is accompanied by a ‘golden egg‘ filled with liqueur and Birds Custard Powder.

The Afternoon Tea is only available until April 21st, so hop along to The Gilbert Scott pronto.
