Dubai: with its luxury hotels, high-end shopping, fast cars, impeccable service, man-made islands, endless beaches with imported sand and year-round sunshine it has become a veritable Disneyland for adults – the attitude there is very much “if you want something, just build it”; and that is precisely what luxury property developer Seven Tides has done with Dukes Dubai, the latest hotel to open in the land known affectionately as “The Sandbox”.

For those seeking a cool, calm oasis of quintessential British luxury in the desert heat, Dukes Dubai, situated on the west trunk of world-famous palm tree-shaped man-made island Palm Jumeirah, will consist of 273 guestrooms including 64 suites, a ladies-only Liberty Duchess floor with 20 rooms and 227 fully-furnished hotel apartments.

Guests can enjoy modern British brasserie-style food at Dukes Dubai’s signature outlet GBR (Great British Restaurant) under the direction of executive chef Martin Cahill, previously of the Mandarin Oriental – expect traditional British fare such as cod and chips, Lancashire Hotpot, Colchester Oysters and Dover Sole followed by a very British dessert menu.

Dukes Bar will serve lighter bites and drinks, including its signature martinis; and the Tea Lounge and Cigar Lounge do exactly what it says on the tin, offering afternoon tea and a selection of fine cigars and malts respectively. Guests craving a touch of the transatlantic can also choose to dine next door at West 14th, an award-winning Manhattan-style steakhouse.

Following a soft opening at the end of December ’16, the first six floors of Dukes Dubai and the restaurant GBR are now open. The remainder of the hotel will open early this year.

Nightly rates at Dukes Dubai start from DHS 959/ £212 for a standard room, including breakfast for two, as a special introductory offer and subject to availability.
