REVIEW: Crystal Ski Holidays and The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead

With the clocks going back and the icy hand of winter beckoning, some of you will no doubt be not only looking into booking a skiing or snowboarding trip but also preparing yourselves for the experience – getting slope-ready, if you will.

Recently we attended Crystal Ski Holidays’ #GetMoreWinter event, a special ski and snowboarding evening at The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead, with lessons for beginners and lift passes for the more slope-seasoned among us. Never having strapped on a pair of skis in our lives (we’re not even sure that’s appropriate ski terminology) we opted for a beginner’s session on the nursery slopes. Although we were quaking in our cumbersome snow boots as we trudged outside our lovely instructor soon put us at ease with his patient and reassuring teaching style and once we’d realised that falling flat on your back doesn’t actually hurt that much when you are going at a snails pace, we quickly grew confident enough to go a bit faster (and subsequently fall down some more). The hour flew by and we left the slopes feeling elated, if not quite Alp-ready.

Private lessons on the trainer slope start at £70 per hour for children and £125 for adults and £32/£75 on the main slope, with all necessary equipment included. There are also a variety of lift passes available, details of which can be found on the website.

Over a well-earned aprés-ski glass of wine or three in the cosy Lodge Bar upstairs, we learned about the wide variety of ski and snowboarding holidays Crystal Ski offers – whether you are going alone, in a group or as a family, whether you want a beginner’s trip or you need extra assistance due to disability, whether you want an all-inclusive package or go the whole hog and indulge yourself with a luxury ski holiday, Crystal have you covered. With umpteen destinations available worldwide between December and April, we definitely recommend checking them out before booking your next ski or snowboard holiday.
