We were invited down to the launch party of Obica in South Kensington to sample the delightful new Mozzarella Bar menu by Chef Alessandro Borghese. He has been appointed creative chef and has developed the new menu with a selection of small plates and a special of the month. This is a brand new food concept for Obica and brings the Italian eating experience to life as the menu is designed with friends and family in mind with their sharing plates.

As the Aperol Spritzs started flowing and the Zeppoles kept on coming (Italian Doughnuts served with Tomato & Mozzarella di Bufala; Sausage, Turnip Greens & Smoked Mozzarella di Bufala; Buffalo Ricotta, Anchovies & Honey) we were drawn a gigantic mozzarella ball being passionately chopped up to pair with the freshest of basil pestos. Belissimo! The selection of mozzarella are out of this world with such a wide range on offer including a Burrata with black truffle.

Chef Alessandro, as a true man from Naples is, was larger than life and we all crowded around the mozzarella bar to see his Live Aperitivo Tour kicking off. He demonstrated with a roaring Italian passion just how to cook one of the new pasta dishes he has created. This was a colourful dish of hemp pasta, sautéed vegetables, smoked mozzarella, topped off with a fragrant grassy extra virgin Italian olive oil.

Obicà is known for its authentic Italian food, sourcing some of the best producers for the freshest products and using them in gorgeously simply dishes from around Italy.

As this was a standing event I will be sure to return to experience the menu properly as the little taste I got from Obica was definitely one to impress.
